Application
This unit describes the skills and knowledge required to independently conceive a coherent body of creative work at a professional level. The unit involves experimenting with ideas to evolve own ideas and approaches, refining and developing concepts and techniques in artistic practice, and planning and managing own creative project through to finished product. It also involves engaging with peers and industry networks in ways that develop and confirm own place as an arts professional.
It applies to individuals who have a highly developed command of materials, process and techniques in any creative form.
No licensing, legislative or certification conditions apply to this unit at the time of publication.

evaluate own skills and work against planned professional practice strategy and in the context of work by others to extend own practice
engage in sustainable ways to support ongoing professional practice and development, including:
evaluating and discussing work with peers in a professional context
participating in related professional networks, associations or events.

Evidence of Knowledge
To complete the unit requirements safely and effectively, the individual must:
explain the relationship between ideas, technique, materials and process in the relevant art form
summarise the influences on chosen area of work, in historical and contemporary contexts
outline critical and creative thinking techniques and how they work in the context of creative practice
clarify commercial and professional opportunities for creative work in the context of own practice
outline project management methodologies suitable for creative work
summarise intellectual property considerations associated with artistic professional practice
outline sustainability issues associated with the tools and materials used in the chosen creative form
explain work health and safety procedures required in relation to the chosen creative form.
Assessment Conditions
Assessment must be conducted in a safe environment where evidence gathered demonstrates consistent performance of typical activities experienced in creative arts industry environments. The assessment environment must include access to:
suitable work space
tools, equipment and materials for producing a body of creative work.
Assessors of this unit must satisfy the requirements for assessors in applicable vocational educational and training legislation, frameworks and/or standards.
